Key Tips to Consider When Shopping for an HVAC Warranty

Key Tips to Consider When Shopping for an HVAC Warranty

December 15, 2023

If your commercial HVAC system breaks down, the right warranty could save you significantly in repair costs, so it’s essential to do thorough research. Here are some tips that business owners in Boston, MA, should remember when shopping for an HVAC warranty.

Term Length

The first thing to examine is the term length of the warranty offered to you. Of course, all else being equal, a longer-lasting warranty is better than a shorter one. This is a particularly important consideration with HVAC equipment since some HVAC systems can run effectively for up to 20 years, and you don’t want to be stuck paying the full cost for major repairs only five years into your system’s service life.

Your response to this problem might be to only work with manufacturers who offer lifetime warranties for their systems. However, lifetime warranties often either don’t cover the cost of labor at all or only cover it for a short timeframe.

Parts and Labor

The next factor to consider is what your prospective warranty covers. Ideally, you’ll want a warranty that covers the full cost of parts and labor for the entire term length.

Some warranties cover only the cost of parts and not labor, the latter of which typically makes up the majority of the cost of HVAC repairs. Even those warranties that cover both sometimes have different terms set aside for different parts. As a rule, more comprehensive warranties will be more expensive.

Voiding the Warranty

The last thing to look for is anything that might void your warranty. Most of the time, manufacturers require that you schedule maintenance on your system at least once per year to keep your warranty active. They also usually forbid any DIY repairs.

You should consider every part of an HVAC warranty carefully before purchasing it. Call Sagamore to get the best commercial HVAC installation services around.
